Visual Guidance

The first mechanised farmers guided their implements visually. Steering aids to visual guidance that evolved included marker arms and foam markers. GPS has evolved as the new dominant steering aid technology. The cost of GPS receivers continues to reduce while the pass to pass performance has improved. It is now possible to utilise free to air DGPS correction signals or no correction signals for operations that only require guidance to reduce the overlap from one pass to the next pass.

The basic visual guidance systems guide the operator parallel to the the previous pass. The are a wide range of products in this category with a range of features right up to fully featured multi-function units. An important consideration with visual guidance products is the shape of the fields. When working with odd shaped field or fields with obstacles, having a live map of where you have been can be advantageous.

Please review the visual guidance forum in the Talk Pages for a more detailed discussion of specific visual guidance products.
